Pour the milk over bran and set aside. Sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, soda, cinnamon and sugar. Set aside. In a large bowl, beat shortening and egg, add bran mixture, mixing thoroughly. Add dry ingredients, stirring only until moistened. Fill muffin cups two thirds full. Bake in a 400ºF. oven for 20 to 25 minutes.
