Date & Nut Bread

2 cups of flour
1/4 teaspoon of salt
3/4 cup of sugar
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 egg
1 cup of dates, chopped
1 cup of walnuts, chopped
1 cup of boiling water

Pour boiling water over dates. Let it cool. Add the beaten egg. Measure and sift together sifted flour, salt, sugar,  and baking soda. Add to the date mixture. Add nuts. Mix well. Pour into a greased and floured bread pan. Bake in a 350ºF. oven for 50 - 60 minutes. Turn out and place on rack. Cover with cloth until cool. Wrap in plastic wrap and foil. Store in refrigerator. It will keep for several weeks. May also be frozen. Submitted by Louise Y.
