| Vanilla Pie
1 cup of molasses or maple syrup 1 cup of brown sugar 2 cups of hot water 1 Egg, beaten 1 cup of granulated sugar 1/2 cup of lard 1 Egg 1 cup of sour milk or cream 2 cups of flour 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda 2 teaspoons of baking powder |

Cook together the molasses, brown sugar, hot water and beaten eggs. Mix together the rest of the ingredients as you would for a cake batter. Divide the batter among 4 unbaked pie shells. Pour the previously prepared syrup over the batter and bake it at 400ºF. for about 10 minutes, then reduce the heat to 350ºF. & bake it until done. The cake will rise to the top during baking.
